Failed to Death Series a Must Read

The Denver Post this week unveiled an eight-part series about the child welfare system in Colorado. “Failed to Death” is the result of a 6-month investigation. Be warned, it includes harrowing stories of child abuse and some criticism of the system.

Because the issues raised in this series deserve national attention, Northwoods is sharing it far and wide. Every child should feel safe in his or her own home. Every family deserves help to make safety a reality.

Child welfare workers are asked to do a nearly impossible job, which is evident in the video “Lives of Social Workers” and the photo essay chronicling a day in the life of child welfare workers. Social workers are compassionate, hardworking professionals dedicated to keeping children safe. We should all express our gratitude and work on improving the system to make their jobs easier to protect more children.

Our hearts go out to all the families involved in the cases highlighted in "Failed to Death," and to families across the country who have faced the loss of a child to abuse.
