Burke County DSS Partners with Northwoods on New Technology Solution

Software to help agency boost efficiency and service to community

DUBLIN, OH—June 24, 2014—Burke County Department of Social Services (DSS) in North Carolina is partnering with Northwoods to implement a document management and appointment management software solution to help the agency boost security, efficiency and service to clients.

Burke County DSS will utilize Northwoods' full suite of software, which includes Compass®Pilot to manage client and case information in the office, Compass® CoPilot for iPad® to access and update documentation from the field, and Compass® Appointments to manage client appointments.

The return on investment of the new system is estimated at $3.9 million over a five-year period with continued savings for years to come. In addition, efficiency gains from the new technology will enable caseworkers to better serve their clients.

“Overall, our staff is thrilled with what we will be able to accomplish with this new technology. Creating a system that can assist us with keeping the most vulnerable community members safe is invaluable. We are very excited and grateful for what this will bring to our community,” said Dorraine Hernandez, director, Burke County DSS.

The need for new technology became obvious when the agency’s current system crashed for a second time within six months, making it impossible for caseworkers to access records or maintain important documents for clients at a time when requests for assistance were skyrocketing. Burke County DSS conducted an in-depth business analysis and discovered significant process inefficiencies because of the unreliable system.

“We are very proud to partner with Burke County to deliver much needed services to those in need in that community. Northwoods looks forward to working with the entire Burke County DSS team to ensure the agency has the best technology tools available to accomplish its mission,” said Gary Heinze, president and CEO, Northwoods.

The Burke County Board of Commissioners approved implementation of the solution June 17 by a vote of five to zero.

Northwoods already partners with 33 counties across North Carolina and over 100 around the country.
