Promises2Kids Says Mahalo, Northwoods!

Most people can think back to when they were young and remember holidays with their family, getting birthday cards in the mail, and spending summer vacations with their siblings. Sadly, for foster children, these are experiences that they miss out on.

Thankfully, Promises2Kids, is dedicated to helping foster children in San Diego realize the promise of a brighter future and enjoy childhood experiences that all should grow up with. Over the last 30 years, Promises2Kids has been providing services and support to foster children across the county, and thanks to the generosity of Northwoods, more children will be able to benefit from the programs.

Northwoods collected donations for Promises2Kids at the Annual ISM Conference in San Diego by organizing a competition where conference attendees could nominate a colleague to compete in a wave-riding competition at the Wave House on Oct. 8, 2013. I was lucky enough to judge the competition, won by James Windsor. After everyone dried off, Northwoods CEO, Gary Heinze, presented Promises2Kids with a check for $5,000.

This donation will provide a number of great opportunities for the children that Promises2Kids serves. Specifically, the donation will be used for the Camp Connect program, which gives siblings who have been separated in foster care the opportunity to spend time together during a residential summer camp and monthly day camps. Camp Connect provides siblings the chance to bond with each other through fun activities and create memories that every child should have.
