Paper Savings Would Circle the Globe 7.1 Times

DUBLIN, OH—April 19, 2012—In honor of Earth Day, Northwoods celebrates its customers for collectively saving 121,882 trees over the past 13 years. Human services agencies using our Compass® software have stored over 1 billion sheets of paper as images instead of using paper. That is enough paper to circle the globe 7.1 times, cover 11,449 football fields or fill a file drawer that is 64 miles long.

“The Northwoods team is committed to helping human services agencies go green and reduce their reliance on paper and manual processes,” said Gary Heinze, Northwoods president & CEO.

Northwoods this week asked its customers and other businesses to take the  “Earth Day Paper Pledge” to reduce paper use by visiting the Earth Day Network’s A Billion Acts of Green website and submitting a pledge.

The Compass® software suite allows workers to scan documents into a document management system and complete electronic forms so case files are stored electronically. Because Northwoods helps customers maintain paperless electronic files, agencies using Compass® software also reduce their use of electronic equipment like printers, copiers, and toner, sparing landfills additional debris once the equipment is no longer is use. Beyond minimizing paper and supply usage, it means that all of the time and energy caseworkers used to spend on paperwork can now be directed toward the most important aspect of their jobs—their clients.
